“Eurovans” is a common name applied to nearly identical large MPVs resulting from Sevel, a joint-venture of PSA and Fiat, and manufactured at Sevel Nord factory in France, near Valenciennes. The first eurovans were sold as Citroën Evasion (Synergie), Fiat Ulysse, Lancia Zeta and Peugeot 806. The present, second generation, saw the renaming of all but the Ulysse to Citroën C8, Lancia Phedra and Peugeot 807 respectively.
The eurovans differ little technically and visually, being a prime example of badge engineering. The eurovans share mechanicals and body structure with Sevel light commercial vans, Citroën Jumpy (Dispatch), Fiat Scudo and Peugeot Expert. They are more technically related to PSA than Fiat vehicles, as PSA governs the Sevel Nord part of the joint-venture.
The first generation eurovans were introduced in 1994. They were similar in dimensions to their main competitor, Renault Espace, although they had a longer wheelbase. They were thus smaller than American vans, like the Chrysler Voyager, which is also a popular model in Europe. In contrast to the Espace and like American minivans they had sliding rear side doors, a trait they share with their commercial siblings. In spite of the fact that the Voyager also came in the “Grand” versions with elongated body and wheelbase (and the Espace followed suit in 1997), the eurovans only came in one size.
The Eurovans were almost identical, the differences consisting in different grilles, lower tailgates/taillights, wheel covers/alloy wheels and exterior and interior badging, as well as different trim levels. In October 1998, the eurovans were mildly facelifted.
Inside, the gear lever was mounted on the dashboard rather than on the floor, and the handbrake is on the door side of the driver’s seat, which allowed for the elimination of central console and opened up a passage between the front seats. The seating configurations included two fixed seats in front and three individual removable seats in the middle row, along with optional two individual removable seats or a three-seater bench in the third row.
The Evasion was badged Synergie in the right hand drive markets of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, presumably due to the existence of the English word “evasion” which is pronounced differently from the French and has different connotations (the word means ‘getting away from it all’ in French but ‘getting away with it’ in English). However, the car retained the Evasion name in New Zealand.
The Fiat was named after Ulysses, the Roman name for Odysseus, the hero of Homer’s Odyssey. Ironically, one of Ulysse’s competitors is Honda Odyssey. Fiat Ulysse is the only eurovan which has retained the same name in the second generation.
Following the traditional naming theme, Lancia named its variant with the, previously unused, Greek letter Zeta. With its big chrome grille, the Lancia served as the “premium” eurovan, not available with base engines and exceptionally well equipped, with prices up to 20% higher than corresponding versions of other eurovans.
The 806 was named according to Peugeot’s trademarked “x0x” system, where the first digit indicates model series (vehicle size/class), while the last indicates the generation, with a central zero. The biggest Peugeot series to date was the executive sedan line “60x”, so Peugeot chose 8, leaving room for potential other model. The eurovans were launched when Peugeot was replacing the “x05″ with “x06″ models, so it was appropriately labelled “806″.
Belgian racing team Kronos Racing unveiled a highly modified racing version of Peugeot 806 with internals of Peugeot 405 Mi16 touring car in 1995 season. 806 even raced in the Spa 24 Hours competition at Spa-Francorchamps, but did not finish due to engine failure.
The first-generation eurovans utilized PSA’s XU/XUD engines, regardless of brand. They were later replaced by the PSA EW/DW engine. All were mated to 5-speed manual transmissions, except for the 2.0 16v petroleum engine, which had an option of a 4-speed automatic
The first-generation eurovans were superseded by a new model in 2002. The floorpan, wheelbase and suspension setup were not altered, but all exterior dimensions as well as front and rear tracks were increased. In particular, the increase in length by almost 30 cm greatly enhanced interior capacity. The new eurovans were afforded a much more bubbly, contemporary look, along with a modern-looking dashboard with centrally mounted gauges. The differences are now more pronounced, encompassing entire front fascias and rear sections (including head- and taillights), as well as different interior color themes. The Fiat and the Lancia are slightly wider than PSA vans, and the Phedra is also longer than other eurovans.
Except for the Fiat Ulysse, all the models have been renamed. The 806 was, as expected, replaced by 807, while Citroën chose to put the minivan in line with its new naming theme, where models were called Cx (x being a number roughly corresponding to the relative size of a given model), hence the Citroën C8. As the new Lancias didn’t use Greek letters anymore, the new minivan was called Lancia Phedra, in honor of the Greek mythological figure Phaedra.
To highlight the launch of the V6 engine, Peugeot presented a design study called Peugeot 807 Grand Toursime at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show. Apart from the exquisite appointment of the 4-passenger interior and some mechanical and visual tuning, the car was essentially a top-of-the-line 807 in a peculiar purple color.
The engine range comprised again of different versions of the PSA EW/DW engine, paired with either 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmissions. Additionally, top-of-the-line versions came with the PSA ES V6.
All diesels were PSA’s HDIs, but billed JTD by Fiat as well.

Ford Ka, officially pronounced as /kɑː/ (like “car” in non-rhotic dialects of English) not kay ay, (with the letter names said individually) but usually pronounced in the latter way to avoid confusion[citation needed], is a city car from the Ford Motor Company marketed in Europe and elsewhere.
The European version is produced in Valencia, Spain, while the one sold in Latin America is built in Brazil.
It has been produced since 1996 and is due to enter its second generation in 2008.
The car was introduced on September 11, 1996 as a small and low-cost addition to the Ford range. The Ka is based on the same platform as the Mark IV Ford Fiesta, but with a radically different external design. The vehicle was manufactured on the production facility of Almussafes, Valencia. When the Ka was first introduced to the public it provoked mixed reactions due to its original and striking New Edge design, created by Jack Telnack.
Besides the styling, the Ka, like its sister cars Fiesta and Puma, was lauded in the motoring press for its nimble handling. Under Richard Parry-Jones’s supervision, the suspension and steering settings allowed for spirited cornering and high levels of grip making it one of the best handling cars of the current generation superminis, not unlike the original Mini.
The main drawback was the Ka’s 1300 cc OHV four-cylinder Endura-E engine, a design dating back to the 1960s Kent engine used in the Ford Anglia. Although not very modern, it provided enough torque to allow relaxed if not spirited driving.[citation needed] In 2002, the Endura-E was replaced by the overhead cam Duratec engine, with claims of improved fuel efficiency and increased refinement, mostly caused by taller gearing on the non-air conditioned models.
The Ka has proved highly profitable for Ford despite its low selling price, largely due to the lack of spending required in its development.[citation needed] It has been the best selling car in its class in the United Kingdom for a number of years and commands around a fifth of the city car market.
The United Kingdom model range consisted of the standard version, the Ka, and the higher specification Ka². The Ka³ was introduced later. Initially, all Kas were delivered as the standard model and upgraded to the higher variants at Ford dealerships, saving on production costs. However, this practice was dropped following the renaming of the Ka² and Ka³ as the Ka Collection and the LuxuryKa (later Ka Luxury).
These offered colour-coded bumpers for the first time, although this lost the designer’s original intention of the black plastic bumpers avoiding parking damage to paintwork in city conditions. The Luxury version came with a Quickclear heated windscreen, leather seats and interior trim as well as standard air conditioning and Ka Sun Collection with a full-length fabric folding roof was also added to the range during the summer months. A revised line-up gives Ka the following trim levels in the United Kingdom: Studio, Style, Style Climate, Zetec Climate, and SportKa SE.
Famous Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney is known to own one.

In Latin America, the Ka received a facelift in 2003 and is now slightly different externally to the European model; the main noticeable difference is at the rear, with taller lights. The other differences from the European model are the very short gearbox and the lack of soundproofing, gradually removed each year since 2000 as a way to cut down costs, following what other Brazilian car makers previously did. It is powered by either a 95 hp (71 kW) Zetec Rocam 1.6-litre petrol engine or a 65 hp (48 kW) Zetec Rocam 1.0-litre petrol engine, both of which are four-cylinder units. 108,600 Ka’s have been sold in Brazil since July 2002, without counting the sales since 1997 (its launch in Brazil).
Ford presented the new Brazilian Ka on 14 December 2007. Sales started on 2 January 2008 in Brazil, and the car will be exported to other markets in Latin America.
The Ford Ka will be officially discontinued in Mexico in early January 2008 due to poor sales since its introduction in late November 2001.[citation needed] The Mexican Ford Ka was the Brazilian model; it has also been announced that the new Brazilian Ka will not be offered in the Mexican market.
In 2003 the Ka brand was diversified, with the addition of a new SportKa featuring a sporty body kit, wider track with stiffened suspension and redesigned 16″ alloy wheels. Both models came with slightly widened bumpers front and rear with integral fog lamps. A convertible model called StreetKa also appeared, launched with the help of pop singer Kylie Minogue.
In 2005 all Ka models including Sportka and Streetka received a slightly updated interior bringing the cabin back up to date while still retaining the look and feel of the original. Both Streetka and Sportka received a new 95 hp 1.6-litre 8-valve Duratec petrol engine, whereas Ka, Ka Collection and LuxuryKa retained the 1.3 Duratec petrol engine.
The SportKa was noted for its surprising advertising campaign, “The Ka’s Evil Twin”, denouncing the Ka’s traditionally perceived “cute” design. The SportKa T.V. advertisement showed a cat being decapitated, thus creating certain controversy. The advert can be seen on YouTube, however many users have illustrated their disgust at the graphic content.
StreetKa ceased to be officially on sale in late 2006.
A Ford KA rally championship was created in 1998 and has proved to be one of the most popular junior rally championships in Britain and Ireland. In 2007 Luke Pinder won the BRC Silverstone Tyre 1400 Championship in a Chris Birkbeck Ford KA.
The Ka generally has a good reliability record.[citation needed]
However, taper-fit sparkplugs are notorious for rusting into the cylinder head. Frequently the head has to be removed and sent to a machine shop when the time comes to change the plugs. The simple solution to this problem is to remove and inspect the plugs at every service interval.
Many Endura-E owners complain of a chattering, rattling or tapping noise from the engine. This is often the tappets. With the tappets set to Ford’s specification gap, some noise can be expected but it should not be excessive. If the tappets require almost continuous adjustment or Ford specifications are used and the engine is still excessively noisy (and often starts ticking) the most common problem is the camshaft. Early Endura-E engines are especially prone to this problem.
The plastic bumpers were clearly in part intended to prevent wheel arch rust, but instead the Ka is known to rust in the welds under the bonnet and tailgate and where the outer sills are shaped around the doors.
The idle control valve can become blocked, causing an unstable idle and driving difficulties. The part may be replaced or carefully cleaned, ensuring the seal is kept.
The front suspension bushes may need to be replaced about every 3 years or 30,000 miles (48,000 km). A symptom of the bushes nearing replacement is a creaking noise from the front of the vehicle when going over bumps. This is a relatively inexpensive problem to correct.
Those models with solid front discs can suffer from overheating brakes in hilly terrain or, given the car’s agile handling, with spirited driving.
In older models the oil sump is prone to corrosion if the protective sealant of the car underside is not maintained.
Earlier models of Ka suffer from a clutch which is known to not stand the test of time very well and will usually need to be replaced after 30,000 miles (48,000 km). Ford became aware of this problem and it does not affect later models.
The door and boot locks have been known to seize up although this problem can be fixed by spraying lubricant such as WD40 into the locks.
In 2008 the Ka will be replaced with a model car co-developed with Fiat S.p.A using the Fiat Panda platform. It will be produced in Tychy, Poland with its Fiat sister, the Fiat 500.
The new Ka will maintain the curvy styling features of the original, while bringing the look up to date with details such as elliptical headlamps. It will retain the distinctive rear overhangs and wheel at every corner design; therefore this modern interpretation will be instantly recognisable.[citation needed] Standard equipment is expected to be improved, with elements such as MP3 player compatibility and satellite navigation.
The new Ka will be available with both 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol engines and additionally a 1.4 TDCi diesel engine. The traditional Ka logo is also expected to be dropped.
For several years a modified Ford Ka was installed in the lobby of the London Aquarium to promote Ford’s sponsorship of the attraction. The vehicle’s doors, windows and vents were sealed and the interior filled with water, forming a home for a shoal of goldfish. The car’s number plates read “KARP”, a pun on “Ka” and “carp”, to which family goldfish belong. The display has now been removed.
According to the BBC TV’s Top Gear Cool Wall, the Ford Ka collects a ‘Cool’ rating, while the StreetKa enjoys a ‘Sub Zero’ classification. The SportKa is deemed ‘Uncool’.
The Ford SportKa found fame in 2003 with the release of two viral TV adverts: Pigeon and Cat. Ford and advertising agency Ogilvy Mather distanced themselves from the campaign, saying that the creatives behind the advertisements had not been given the go-ahead to make or release them.
A 2002 Ford Ka is driveable in Gran Turismo 4.

The Ford Kuga is an upcoming compact crossover SUV to be produced by Ford Europe. The car is based on the C1 platform that also underpins the Ford Focus and Ford C-MAX. Both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive will be offered, while only a 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine will be available at launch.
The Kuga will go on sale in the first half of 2008, and will be built at Ford’s plant in Saarlouis, Germany. In the UK, emphasising the car’s premium market aspirations, only high-end Zetec and Titanium specifications will be offered.
On July 20, 2007, a report indicated that Ford executives were considering the prospects of sales in North America. This idea was later scrapped after it was determined the car could not be sold both competitively priced and at a profit in the US due to the current dollar-Euro exchange rate.
In Croatian, Serbian, and Bosnian the word “kuga” is a direct translation of “bubonic plague.”

The Fiat Stilo is a small family car produced by the Italian automaker Fiat since 2001. The Stilo was unveiled in 2001 to replace the Fiat Bravo/Brava.
It is available in both 3- and 5-door hatchback versions, as well as an estate car (station wagon) called “Stilo MultiWagon”. Originally, its petrol engines were the 1242 cc DOHC 16 valve engine also powering the Punto and Lancia Ypsilon with an output of 80 bhp (60 kW) combined with a 6 speed manual gearbox, a 102 bhp (76 kW), 1.6 L with a 5 speed manual gearbox (The 1.6 was also available with a 6 speed manual gearbox, but these are quite rare) a 131 bhp (97 kW), 1.8 L, again with a 5 speed manual gearbox and a 168 bhp (125 kW), 5 cylinder, 2.4 L engine combined with Fiat’s Selespeed 5 speed semi-automatic gearbox, also used on the Alfa Romeo 147. The 2.4 L engine was reserved for the hatchback versions. An 8 valve, 1.9 JTD unit with 115, 120, 130 or 16 valve 150 bhp diesel unit were/are also available.
The Stilo’s styling received mixed reviews, with many journalists and enthusiasts criticising it as being too bland and too German-looking. Critics also attacked the car’s excessive weight and its semi-rigid rear axle, which was seen as a step backwards from the acclaimed set-up used in the Bravo/Brava and which resulted in handling many found uninspired and uninvolving. The engine range, particularly the 1.2 litre petrol, was also criticised for being underpowered. The car’s fuel economy was also seen as poor for its class, a result of the car’s heavy weight and the transmission, which used very long gear ratios. Another point of criticism was the Selespeed gearbox, which was seen as too slow in its reactions and particularly inappropriate for the high-powered Abarth version. Nevertheless, the car won praise for its high levels of grip (aided by the unusually wide tires) and its brakes.
In the UK, different trim levels available are/were: Active, Active Aircon, Blue, Dynamic, Sporting, Abarth, GT, Prestigio, Xbox limited edition, Michael Schumacher and the Schumacher GP, with general modifications by British car specialists, Prodrive.
The Stilo was the first car worldwide to use the TRW Column-Drive Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPS) technology later introduced on the 2003 Nissan Micra & Renault Megane.
As the Stilo model range has aged, the amount of equipment from the options list has now been lessened. The Stilo was originally offered in some markets with a radar guided cruise control option; it included sensors in the front bumper and rear of the car to adjust the speed of the car according to other vehicles’ speed. This was soon dropped as it became apparent that other interferences were creating undesired results for the driver. A keyless entry, named ‘Easy Go’, push button start, similar in function to Renault’s, Mercedes’ and BMW Mini’s systems, was also an available option.
For MY2006 the Stilo was updated with a new front grille, different seat fabric, a relocation of the electric mirror controls from the window control console to just behind the gear stick, removal of the centre arm-rest (which when in the downward position prevented comforable use of the handbrake as in the Audi A3) and the deletion of the rear air vent.
The Stilo was ultimately a sales disappointment. An extensive advertising campaign using Formula 1 stars Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello did little to aid the car’s sales. In 2004, the 1242 cc engine was dropped in favour of the Punto’s 1.4 L unit, increasing the car’s power to 95 bhp (71 kW), again combined with the 6 speed gearbox. Also, the taillights were altered and the Abarth version gained a manual gearbox instead of the Selespeed.
The Fiat Stilo passed the Euro NCAP car safety tests with following ratings
In February 2008 Fiat announces to order 15,000 Stilo’s back to the garage, after it turned out in the Dutch television programme Kassa that the front spring might break.
The launch of the Stilo has also meant that Fiat has returned to the World Rally Championship. The 187 bhp Fiat Stilo was the Italian company’s representative for the 2004 season.
Only available in the 5-door hatchback version, the Stilo was launched in South America in 2003, being assembled in Brazil. The engines were the Family I GM engines 1.8L with 8 (103 hp) and 16 valves (122 hp) versions, and a 2.4 20-valve version (170 hp) for the Abarth model as well. For export, the chosen engines were the Italian-made 1.8 16v VIS engine with 133 hp and the 1.9 JTD Diesel of 115 hp specially for Argentina and Uruguay.
A Schumacher special edition of the Stilo was added in 2004 and lasted until 2006; contrary to the European version, which was based on the 3-door version and equipped with the 2.4 20-valve engine, the Brazilian was only available with five doors and the Family I GM 1.8 16v engine. In 2006, the Stilo gained a GM-sourced flexible engine capable of using petrol and alcohol and the 1.8 16v engine was retired; there were rumours of a new 1.9 16v Torque derived, but this engine will be reserved to Linea and Punto models.
In the Americas, the Stilo will be replaced by the new Bravo in late 2009 or early 2010, when it will be built in Brazil; from 2007 on the Italian import is available in Chile and Venezuela.
Fiat Automóveis introduced a facelifted Stilo in the end of January 2008, in which the Dualogic manual-robotized gearbox was released, being available to every version with the 1.8 Flex engine, which now produces 112 PS (110 hp/82 kW) (petrol) or 114 PS (112 hp/84 kW) when using alcohol as fuel. The car also got minor cosmetic changes to front grille, bonnet, side bumpers and to the taillights, in order to end its production cycle, which is expected to happen in 2010.
54.427 Stilos have been sold in Brazil since July 2002.

The third generation vehicle was marketed as the Hyundai XG in North America, while the fourth generation model was renamed the Azera in North America, Asia (outside South Korea and Japan), South Africa, and South America. The Grandeur nameplate is currently in use in South Korea, Japan, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
The first Grandeur was a rebadged Mitsubishi Debonair that was produced by Hyundai. Initially launched with Mitsubishi-sourced 2.0L SOHC MPI engine also used in 1st generation Sonata. 2.4L SOHC MPI engine had added in 1987 and V6 3.0L engine model launched in 1990 to compete with Daewoo Imperial.
The New Grandeur and the third generation of the Mitsubishi Debonair were the products of a joint development between Hyundai and Mitsubishi Motors. Mitsubishi was responsible for the powertrain, and Hyundai was responsible for the body and trim design. Production of the car began in September 1992 and ended in 1998.
The “New Grandeur” came in various trim levels and 4 engine variations (4-cylinder 2.0L and three V6 engines (2.5L, 3L, and 3.5L).
Although it was not exported outside the home market, the second generation Grandeur was success in Korean domestic market as the flagship sedan of Hyundai lineup. For a long time, this model was sort of status symbol in Korea.
The Grandeur XG was a mid-size luxury car. In some other markets, namely North America, it was called the Hyundai XG. It shared a platform and engines with the Kia Amanti.
The XG300 debuted in 2000 with a 3.0 L Sigma V6.
It was called the XG30 in Europe and in Asian countries. It was produced from 2001 - 2003. A 2.5 litre model was also produced in some countries. The XG30 boasted many options available to only high end luxury models at the time such as the Mercedes E-class and BMW 5 series. The XG30 is also longer and wider than most of its rivals, and is just a fraction smaller than the Audi A6.
Performance-
Acceleration: 0-60 mph - 8.5 seconds Top speed: 225 km/h (140 mph) Power: 193 bhp (144 kW)
The XG350 name was used as of 2002 to reflect the new 3.5 L version of the Sigma V6. Has a L model too with more options like shiftronic, Heated seats, 210 Watt Infinity sound system with 6 Speakers & trunk mounted 8 Disk Cd changer. Wood and leather steering wheel, moon roof, 10 spoke alloy rims. and has around 200 hp (150 kW).
The Grandeur TG is a full-size sedan introduced for the 2006 model year. A redesigned XG350, it shares a platform with the Sonata. It is sold as the Hyundai Azera in North America, China, Taiwan, Philippines, Iran, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Singapore, Peru, Chile and Brazil.
Being a step up from the Sonata, the Azera is priced at US$24,995 for a base model, US $27,495 for the Limited version, and $29,995 for the Ultimate Package. The flagship Azera will be the most luxurious sedan Hyundai is selling outside of Korea, China, and the Middle East, until 2008, when an all-new rear-wheel drive luxury sedan called the Genesis is released under the Hyundai name in North America to test the waters for a future luxury brand.
The Azera has a four-wheel independent suspension (multi-link in the rear) and uses the company’s new 3.8 L Lambda V6, which produces 265 hp (196 kW). The power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission with a “Shiftronic” manual gear selection. Hyundai claims 6.0 s to accelerate to 60 mph (97 km/h) and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Fuel economy of 19 mpg (12.4 L/100 km) in the city and 28 mpg (8.4 L/100 km) on the highway is expected.
The 2.2 VGT CRDI diesel engine from the Santa Fe is also available in Europe.
The Limited trim level adds 17 in alloy wheels, heated front seats, leather seat-upholstery, and a power sun shade in the rear window. The Ultimate Package includes an enhanced audio system with 10 speakers and a 6 CD changer, a power sunroof, telescopic steering wheel, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

The Hyundai Tiburon (a.k.a. Hyundai Coupé) is a compact coupe produced by Hyundai since 1996. The name itself means “shark” in Spanish. Tiburon is the name given to the current North American, Australian, New Zealand, South African, and Austrian production of the vehicle, though it is called the Hyundai Coupe in world markets. It has also been known by the moniker Turbulence and Tuscani in the South Korean market.
The model has been released in two generations (RD and GK) over its lifespan and in that time these generations have been subject to periodic facelifts. These facelifts have attempted to keep the car up to date with various safety improvements and a mixture of changes to exterior and interior styling. The RD Tiburon was in production for 5 years from 1996 to 2001. The GK Tiburon has been produced since 2002 and is still in production in its latest guise.
Enthusiasts sometimes refer to it using the nickname ‘Tib’ or ‘Tibby’ in the markets in which it is called the Tiburon.
Hyundai officially announced that the 2008 model year will be the last for the Tiburon. While no replacement has been announced, Hyundai has officially stated that the 2010 Genesis coupe is not a Tiburon replacement.
Tiburon first began production in late 1996. It was available in a few foreign markets with engine choices of either 1.6L or 1.8L. In the United States, the Tiburon was first offered in 1997 with base models using the Elantra’s 1.8L 130 hp (97 kW) engine while the upscale FX received a 2.0L four-cylinder engine. The 2.0L was rated at 140 hp (104 kW) at the crankshaft (the car’s manual specifies 102 kW (137 hp) at the flywheel). Base weight was around 2,550 lb (1,150 kg), giving the RD Tiburon a higher power to weight ratio than the newer GK 2.0L. The 2.0L produces a 0-60 mph time of ~7.9 seconds, with a 1/4 mile time of ~16 seconds. In 1998 the Tiburon lost its weaker 1.8L engine, giving both models the 2.0L. All versions of the Tiburon manufactured from 1996-2001 are known as “RD” Tiburons. There were various options, with or without ABS, 2 airbags, leather, and sunroof.
In Australia, the 1996–2000 Hyundai Coupe was assessed in the Used Car Safety Ratings 2006 as providing “worse than average” protection for its occupants in the event of a crash, based only on statistics data.
The RD2 Tiburon is an update on the original RD platform and was released for sale in 2000. The RD2 received a facelift that altered the front and rear bumpers and also provided a refreshed interior dash. In South Korea, the RD2 Tiburon was marketed as the “Tiburon Turbulence”.
The RD2 headlights have separate enclosures for the high and low beams giving the four headlight look, similar to the third generation Acura Integra and the sixth generation Toyota Celica. The rear bumper is also reformed receiving larger tailights. The same 140 hp (104 kW) 2.0L engine was carried over producing identical performance. ABS and sunroof were available in a package.
105 hp (78 kW) @ 5800 rpm and 143 N•m (106 ft•lbf) torque @ 4,500 rpm.
130 hp (97 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 171 N•m (126 ft•lbf) torque @ 4200 rpm.
140 hp (104 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 180 N•m (133 ft•lbf) torque @ 4800 rpm.
From 1997 to 1999 The Tiburon was offered with a 5-speed manual transmission standard while a 4 speed automatic w/ overdrive was optional.
Acceleration 0-60 mph: 11.6 seconds Top speed: 115 mph (185 km/h)
Acceleration 0-60 mph: 9.0 seconds Top speed: 123 mph (198 km/h)
Acceleration 0-60 mph: 8.0 seconds Top Speed: 137 mph (220 km/h)
The previous-generation Tiburon expired after 2001. Hyundai launched a revised Tiburon in 2002 for the 2003 model year, giving it new styling, larger dimensions, and an optional V6 engine. Tiburon’s wheelbase and overall length grew slightly compared to the previous version, increasing curb weight by about 200 pounds. Base and GT V6 models were offered, both with standard front side airbags and optional antilock braking. Base Tiburons retained a new 138 hp (103 kW) 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, while GT V6 coupes got the new 2.7-liter 172 hp (128 kW) V6 from Hyundai’s Sonata and Santa Fe. A five-speed manual transmission was standard, and a four-speed automatic was optional. The automatic unit had a manual shift gate. Also optional on the GT V6 was a six-speed manual gearbox. Base models rode on 16-inch tires, versus 17-inch for the GT V6. Both had standard four-wheel disc brakes. Leather upholstery was standard in the GT V6, which could also have a rear spoiler and aluminum pedals. A sunroof was optional.
In 2005 Hyundai facelifted the Tiburon and reshuffled the model lineup; offering GS, GT, and SE models. Hyundai’s four-cylinder engine went into the GS, while the other two held the 2.7-liter V6. A five-speed manual transmission was standard. A four-speed automatic with a manual shift was optional for GS and GT models, but the SE had exclusive use of a six-speed manual gearbox. Antilock braking was standard on the SE and optional for the GT coupe, which could be equipped with leather upholstery. GS coupes rode on 16-inch wheels, versus 17-inch for other models. All-disc brakes and front side airbags were standard. Anti-lock brakes were made standard on all 2006 model Tiburons.
In the UK, three models were available before and after the 2005 facelift: the 1.6S, 2.0SE and V6. The 1.6S had a single exhaust and leather seats were optional. Both other models have twin exhausts and leather seats as standard. The six-speed gearbox was also standard on the V6 model.
Hyundai recently announced that following the 2008 model year, the Tiburon will end production. Since Hyundai has on more than one occassion said that the Genesis coupe is not a replacement for the Tiburon, this leaves the possibility open of a future front-wheel drive sports coupe.
Hyundai conducted minor tweaks to the ‘GK’ model in 2005, for the outgoing named 2006. The vehicle incorporated reworked sleeker blackened headlights, redesigned rear tail lights, more aggressive front air dam, a different range of alloy wheel designs, colored stitching on leather seats (half leather seats available for the 1.6 range).
A popular modification saw owners of the 2003 vehicle removing the air-filter resonator box. The resonator box was located directly in front of the front left hand side wheel, behind the fender. This allowed for a greater airflow to the air filter, gaining a minimal increase of brake horse power (bhp). Hyundai, seeking cost cuts, adopted this modification for 2004+ models. Hyundai also released a new color for their 2006 Tiburon called Regatta blue, between Tidal Wave blue and Midnight blue, which is Metallic. This color is also available for the 2007 Elantra and Tiburon.
A more comprehensive facelift was launched in 2007, named the Coupe SIII in markets such as the UK, this time altering the appearance of the car enough to designate it the fourth generation or GK F/L reminiscent of the RD1 and RD2 denotations.
The headlights are thinner and angled more aggressively; somewhat similar to the original Tiburon headlights with more straight/sharp lines. The tail lights are similar to the RD2 and GK1 but are somewhat smaller and reflect an aftermarket styling. The fenders lose the “gill fins” and other small changes are seen.
The interior is updated with brushed aluminum accents, new blue backlight scheme for gauges and instrumentation and new seats.
The exact specification depends on model and the market where it is sold but these are some of the features available:
The 2004–2007 models received a 4/5 star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the USA.
141 hp (105 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 184 N·m (136 ft·lbf) torque @ 4500 rpm.
172 hp (128 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 245 N·m (181 ft·lbf) torque @ 3800 rpm.
In 2002 the 5-speed retained standard on the GS, GT, and GT Limited, while the upscale SE model came only with a six-speed manual. A four-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic was available for all models.
Acceleration 0-60 mph: 9.2 seconds Top speed: 130 mph (209 km/h)
Acceleration 0-60 mph: 8.2 seconds Top speed: 132 mph (212 km/h)
Acceleration 0-60 mph: 7.7 seconds Top speed: 137 mph (220 km/h)
Acceleration 0-60 mph: 7.2 seconds Top speed: 145 mph (233 km/h)
In several markets the model is sold and branded as a Tuscani. The Tuscani wears a circular badge containing a smaller circle of black and grey horizontal bars which is overlaid with a letter ‘T’ painted gold on the left and silver on the right. Even in markets where the car is sold as a Hyundai Tiburon or Hyundai Coupe, the name Tuscani has become quite popular. Many cars have been modified aftermarket to be rebadged with Tuscani emblems. In Canada, a special edition of the Tiburon is sold as a “Tuscani edition”. A rumour has started to circulate that Hyundai is considering a plan to branch off the Tuscani name as a complete sub brand for more exclusive, sporty, and upmarket models. The existence of the name is most likely to achieve greater sales where the Hyundai name has cloying associations with more budget products.
In some markets secondary badging may denote engine size and variations such as trim, wheel, and other options. These badges include GS, GT, SE and FX, although some use FX across the entire range available. In certain markets, certain exterior colors are not available and identification may require noticing subtle local differences such as alloy wheels, spoilers or dealer fit options such as in car entertainment systems. These can all change from year to year and from market to market, so the variation is quite significant. One notable difference is that the 1.6 engine always has a single exhaust on the right hand side, in all markets where it is sold.

The car has been marketed as the Lotze (hangul:기아 로체) in South Korea, and as the Optima in the United States since 2001, Australia since 2001, and Europe since 2002. In Chile the first generation was marketed as Optima, and since as Magentis.
The Optima is produced for the Chinese market by the Dongfeng Yueda Kia Automobile Company, a joint venture with Kia.
The 2001 through 2005 model year Magentis were mechanically identical to their sister car, the Hyundai Sonata. Thereafter the Kia Optima differed only from the Sonata in exterior styling and options.
The styling of the Magentis/Optima was revamped for the 2003 model year. The grille was redesigned for 2004 to feature the Kia badge.
2003 Kia Optima
2004-2005 Kia Optima
The revised Optima was launched in November 2005 in Korea; and for North America on January 9, 2006 at the North American International Auto Show, now differing to a greater degree from the Sonata.
Unlike the previous Optima, this vehicle no longer shares its platform with the current generation Sonata (NF) nor Hyundai Elantra (HD). It instead uses a global platform, unique to Kia, designated “MG,” shared with the the Kia Carens/Rondo.
The car continues to be built in South Korea. The current Optima/Magentis shares its 2.4L I4 engine with the Sonata, and uses a 5-speed “Sportmatic” automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
The Optima received a crash test rating of 5-stars from the NHTSA and 4-stars from Euro NCAP.
The 2009 Kia Optima receives a minor facelift, to debut at the 2008 New York International Auto Show and includes changes to the front facia, headlamps, and grille.
The Kia Optima 2.7L Quad V6 engine also could be considered the most powerful engine in the class as it generats 262 hp (195 kW). It can let the optima to reach 0-60 mph in 5.9 sec. and 269 km/h as top speed

The Dodge Avenger name identifies three different cars:
Introduced as a 1995 model year vehicle the Dodge Avenger shared a platform with the Mitsubishi Eclipse. This model was discontinued after the 2000 model year.
In 2005 rumours started to spread that the Avenger name would be returning to the Dodge lineup though this time it would be replacing the Dodge Stratus, the coupe version of which replaced the Avenger in 2001. This time however it would not be a coupe but a sedan only. The car was officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show. That model had a diesel engine, but is currently only available in the US and Canada with a choice of three gasoline engines. The diesel is available in other international markets.
The name Avenger was originally used on the Hillman Avenger (later Chrysler/Talbot Avenger), produced by Rootes Group while that company was owned by the Chrysler Corporation. This model was marketed in South Africa as “Dodge Avenger”.
The first generation Dodge Avenger was a 2-door coupe produced from 1995 to 2000, replacing the Dodge Daytona and the Mitsubishi-based Dodge Stealth (which was discontinued in 1996). The Avenger, along with the similar Chrysler Sebring coupe, were built by Diamond Star Motors (DSM), a joint venture between Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors, on a stretched version of the Mitsubishi Eclipse platform. This joint venture between the two ended in 1995. Avengers and Sebring coupes built from 1995 to 1996 both have DSM markings in their engine compartments.
The Avenger had a 103 in (2.62 m) wheelbase and used either a 2.0 L I4 (the Chrysler 420A) or a Mitsubishi-designed 2.5 L V6. The 4-cylinder was coupled to either a five-speed manual transmission, shared with the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eagle Talon, or a 4-speed automatic. The V6 was only available with the A604 transmission.
Subtle changes were made to the Avenger over the years. ABS was equipped in all SE models to 1999. In 1997, the front fascia, trunklid, and rear bumper were changed; 16 inch wheels were standard, and the license plate was moved to the rear bumper. In 2000, the V6 and automatic transmission combo was made standard on all Avengers, and ABS was made an “option” for SE models. The four-cylinder engine was dropped for 2000.
A “Sport Appearance Package” could be added on to Base model cars. This package included alloy wheels (different from those on the SE) with other options.
1994: A 1994 Dodge NASCAR IROC Dodge Avenger sports coupe replaced the Dodge Daytona, which had been used since 1990. Only 6 of these were sold from IROC in New Jersey.
1995: Initial introduction - replaces the Daytona. A DOHC 16-valve 2.0 L I4 engine (140 hp, 130 lb·ft (176 N·m) of torque) is standard. A SOHC 24-valve 2.5 L V6 engine and an automatic transmission (155 hp, 160 lb·ft (217 N·m) of torque) are made optional on the ES. Fog lamps and ABS are also optional on the ES.
1996: Power and torque ratings for the V6 are increased (163 horsepower, 170 lb·ft (230 N·m). torque), ES Coupes wore new seat fabric.
1997: Sport model introduced (in addition to the base and SE). The Avenger Sport package consisted of exclusive 16 inch aluminum wheels and a body-color spoiler. New front and rear fascias are added. Added a body-color rear spoiler, P215/50HR17 tires and 17 inch cast aluminum wheels for are added for the SE. The V6 is also made standard for the ES, as well as rear disc brakes.
1998: An on-board recycling vapor recovery system, Caffe Latte exterior color and a black and gray interior color combination are added.
1999: Next generation driver and front passenger airbags are added, as well as a new exterior color; Shark Blue. The V6 engine and automatic transmission are made standard on all models in mid-year, as well as several options.
2000: Last year for the Avenger. V6/automatic drivetrain are standard. ABS an option on ES models. Gained a number of standard features that had previously been optional, including power windows and locks. Base models added cruise control, and 4-wheel disc brakes. ES coupes now came with standard leather upholstery, keyless remote entry, and a power driver’s seat.
In 2000 the Avenger was discontinued, and replaced by the Dodge Stratus coupe for 2001.
The MY2008 model Avenger returned in February 2007 as a sedan to replace the Dodge Stratus, whose coupe version had replaced the original Avenger in 2001. The Avenger, along with the redesigned Chrysler Sebring, shares a DaimlerChrysler/Mitsubishi Motors platform called the GS. For the new cars, the GS platform is stretched in size and known as the JS. The base engine in the SE and SXT trim levels is the 2.4 LGEMAI4 naturally-aspirated “World Engine”, a joint venture between DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai. Additional engines include an optional 2.7 L V6 in the SXT and a standard 3.5 L V6 in the R/T trim level. In addition to the 2.4 L “World Engine” and the V6s, export vehicles will be offered with the 2.0 L naturally-aspirated “World Engine”, as well as a 2.0 L turbocharged diesel (Pumpe-Düse) made by Volkswagen . As a 2008 model, the Dodge Avenger came to showrooms in February 2007.
Features on the new Avenger include optional heated/cooled cup holders as well as Dodge’s new “Chill Zone”, a feature that comes standard on all Avenger models, which can store up to 4 12oz cans in the glove box and chill them to 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Like its Dodge Journey stablemate, the Avenger’s exterior was styled by Chrysler’s Ryan Nagode . The interior was styled by Ben S. Chang.

The Avenger replaced the Charger as Dodge’s car in NASCAR in 2007 for Car of Tomorrow races. It got its first win with former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya in the 2007 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at the Infineon Raceway.
The Avenger was officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show on September 28, 2006 as a concept car. It has been launched in Europe and will be sold in Britain, filling a gap in the Chrysler range that was left by the Neon’s demise four years earlier. It has also been launched in Australia, although currently with only the 2.4L engine.
In the US, the Avenger was launched with a 30 television ad, “Tuned Up,” that debuted Sunday, March 4 2007 during NHL hockey, an ad in which a lab technician discovers he can play Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple on the Avenger’s transmission. Another television spot likened the Avenger to the “superhero” vehicle for the everyman, depicting a driver piloting his Avenger through Gotham-like streets and alleys, speaking to the MyGig entertainment system in distinctly Batman-reminiscant tones, to arrive home, pull into a two-car garage and open the rear door to a sleeping child in the rear car-seat. See: Dodge Avenger: “Batmobile”
The Avenger is currently one of only a handful of midsized automobiles for sale in Canada and the US available with AWD and a 6spd transmission.
SE: 2.4L 4 Cyl DOHC 16V Dual VVT 4 spd automatic
SXT: 2.4L 4 Cyl DOHC 16V Dual VVT 4 spd automatic SXT optional powertrain: 2.7L V6 DOHC 24 Valve MPI 4 spd automatic
R/T: 3.5L High Output V6 24V MPI 6spd automatic
R/T AWD: 3.5L High Output V6 24V MPI 6 spd automatic
The first generation Dodge Avenger body style was widely used in the National Hot Rod Association, but came to the most prominence being driven by Darrell Alderman, and Scott Geoffrion, during their run from 1994 -2000, as the celebrated Dodge Boys. The car was also used for the 1994 and 1995 incarnations of the International Race of Champions.

The Suzuki Swift is a supermini car manufactured by the Japanese Suzuki Motor Corporation. It was originally named SA-310 at its debut in 1985, but in 1986 it was renamed the Swift. It featured a modest 993 cc straight-3 engine producing 50 hp (37 kW), capable of going 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 17.9 seconds with a top speed of 141 km/h (88 mph). The G10 engine was very light, weighing only 63 kg (139 lb), and was not very powerful compared to other cars on the market. The suspension was lifted from the Suzuki Alto.
In Japan the car was sold as Suzuki Cultus, and from 1985 to 1988 in the United States and 1991 in Canada, the car was sold by General Motors as the Chevrolet Sprint and the Geo Metro captive imports. The car was sold from 1985 to 2000 as the Pontiac Firefly in Canada. In 1998, when General Motors discontinued the Geo line of economy cars, the Metro was rebadged as a Chevrolet. The Geo Metro was GM’s most fuel efficient car of the 1990s. Its sedan version was the third model launched by Maruti Suzuki of India and was sold as the Maruti 1000 and the Suzuki Forsa in Canada.
The first generation Suzuki Swift, internally designated by Suzuki as AA41S, was available in a number of engine configurations including a carbureted or fuel injected turbocharged 1.0 litre, 3 cylinder (G10) engine and a carbureted or fuel injected 1.3 litre (G13).
There were two versions available: the 1.0 GA and the 1.0 GL. The GA model was the “budget” trim level, with plastic wheelcovers, 5-speed gearbox and cloth trim. The GL model was the plusher of the two, and had a 5-speed gearbox, a sunroof (some markets had air conditioning. It also had alloy wheels rather than wheelcovers.
The AA41S series was the first to introduce the Swift GTi. The Swift GTi utilized the G13B engine. The G13B is a DOHC 16 valve, 1.3 L, in-line 4-cylinder engine that features an aluminum block and cylinder head, forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, and cast aluminum high compression pistons (10:1 compression ratio). Its power output is 101 hp (70 kW). The MK1 Swift GTi was available in European and Asia-Pacific markets.
North American markets only received the 1.0 litre version which were sold as the Chevrolet Sprint, Pontiac Firefly, and the Suzuki Forsa. Both the carbureted and turbocharged models were available in North America. The Chevrolet Sprint Turbo was available in 1987 and 1988 in red and white.
The AA44S series introduced an entirely redesigned vehicle, with a new curvier body style, four wheel independent strut suspension and numerous other improvements. It was available with a 1.0 liter 3-cylinder, 1.3 liter 4-cylinder, and 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engines. The 1.0 liter 3-cylinder engine continued being the most popular variant, with a power output of 53 hp (39 kW). The higher powered Swift GTi had an improved G13B engine which now featured hollow camshafts, stronger web casting on the engine block, a better flowing intake manifold (the prior generation intake manifold had its shape compromised to fit into the engine bay), and its ECU now had electronic control over ignition timing. It now put out 100 hp (74 kW) of power. The Swift GTi also featured all wheel disc brakes. The JDM Cultus GTi featured a G13B engine that had higher compression pistons (11.5:1 compression ratio), tubular exhaust headers, a tubular intake manifold, larger camshafts and a reprogrammed ECU. Some models of the Cultus GTi were also available with all-wheel drive. The engine in the Cultus had a power output of 113 hp (84 kW).
The second-generation Swift was introduced to North America in two trim levels in 1989; 3-door GTi and 5-door GLX. The GTi name was changed to GT in 1990 because of an out of court settlement with Volkswagen of America over their similarly named GTI. The GTi/GT had a 1.3 liter, Twincam 100 hp (70 kW) 16-valve 4-cylinder engine while the GLX had a single cam 8-valve version of the same engine. The 1.0 liter 3-cylinder was never available in North America in the Swift except for Canada where it was sold from 1992 to 1994. In 1990, the GLX was dropped; an inexpensive GA 3-door was added as were a GA, GL and GS 4-door sedan.
The AA44S Swift was manufactured in India as the Maruti Esteem till 2007.
In Europe the car was marketed as the Subaru Justy and in Chile the sedan version was named Suzuki Jazz.
The MK3 series continued with the body-style of the MK2, but changed the style of the bumpers, taillights and updated the interior. GT/GTi versions were equipped with larger sway-bars, and the camshafts were now solid. Power output remained the same at 100 hp (70 kW). Production of the MK3 Swift for the North American market ended in 1994, and in Japan (as the Cultus) for 1998. In Europe, the MK3 series was known as “MK2 - Type2″, incorrectly called Phase 2 by many, and it was built at Magyar Suzuki, remaining in various European countries until 2003. In Esztergom, Hungary the first car was made in September 1992. This was called type 1 (MK2 - type 2). From 1996 type 2 followed (MK3 - type 1). From the model year 2000 there were some modifications made (MK3 - type 2). Some type 2 models were fitted with a suzuki 4 wheel drive system and badged as Subaru Justy. (suzuki marketed a 4×4 cultus in Japan but did not make it available in Europe) The last modifications were made from model year 2002 but only for the Hungarian market. This was called type 4 (MK3 - type 3). The production of the 3dr models were finished in September 2002. In the same year, in December, the 4dr sedan version was also discontinued. The last var was a 5dr version in March 2003. The 5dr models are still manufactured in Pakistan (called the Cultus, 1.0 carbureted engine operating with petrol & CNG), and the 4dr sedan in India (by Maruti, called the Esteem) and in China (by Changan, called the Lingyang) In Australia, the MK3 series continued sales until 1999. The North American Geo Metro and Pontiac Firefly models were available in convertible, hatchback and sedan forms. Metro and Firefly sedans were only sold in Canada and produced in Japan while Metro and Firefly hatchbacks were produced by CAMI Automotive. Swift, Metro and Firefly models were redesigned in 1995, later discontinued in 2001.
A North American-exclusive Suzuki Swift built at CAMI Automotive in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada became available in 1995.
The 1998 model year brought a change under the hood with a new I-4 1.3L engine, it was a SOHC 16v design, other upgrades included the move away from the distributor to electronic ignition, and the switch to MPFI(Multiport Fuel Injection) from TBI(Throttle Body Injection). The new engine’s specifications: Power: 59 kW , 79 HP @ 6,000 rpm; 75 ft lb , 102 Nm @ 3,000 rpm. This engine replaced the older 8v 4 cylinder, but the 3 cylinder engine remained unchanged.
After 2001, the Suzuki Swift was no longer sold in the United States.
For the Canadian market, Suzuki stopped selling the Swift MK3.5 (or MK5) in 2001, to be superseded by a version of the Daewoo Kalos in fall 2003 (progenitor of the Chevrolet Aveo et al), named the Suzuki Swift+ and marketed solely as a 5-door hatchback.
The Mk4 Swift had its debut at the Paris Auto Salon in September 2004. This Swift is intended to compete in the European B segment with the Peugeot 206, Opel Corsa and the Fiat Punto. Available with 1.3 (92 bhp) and 1.5 (102 bhp) litre petrol engines, the new Swift is Suzuki’s new “global car”, to be produced in Hungary, India, Japan and by Chang’an in China. 3- and 5-door bodies are available and four-wheel drive is an option with the 1.3 litre petrol engine.
The design of the new Swift was previewed on the Concept S and Concept S2 concept cars at auto shows, in the years leading up to its launch. Its proportions and basic shape share similarities with the New Mini, with blacked-out A pillars and bumper-car stance.
The British Autocar magazine gave the new Swift a favourable 4/5 stars in road test, judging it a “thoroughly impressive all-rounder”. The Mk4 Swift has received a four stars out of five rating in the EuroNCAP crash tests[citation needed].
Since its global launch in 2005, which was kicked off with a marketing campaign fronted by the footballer Cristiano Ronaldo in many European countries, the Swift has recorded above forecast sales in most markets[citation needed]. In Japan, sales figures have been twice the forecast and in many European markets the model has been a runaway success[citation needed]. In Denmark, the Mk¤ Swift has been consistently in Top 3 for more than 2 years and was the car with the highest sales figures in 2006[citation needed]. In India, rapid sales of the new Swift model contributed to the 64% rise in Q1 profits for Maruti Suzuki.
Suzuki introduced a sedan based version of the Swift called the Maruti Swift Dzire in the Indian market. The sedan has the exact same wheelbase as the hatchback version and has an increased overall length due to the addition of the boot.
